Through the strategic implementation of Spot by NetApp’s Ocean and Fairwinds Insights, Zonar significantly improved its Google Cloud utilization and Kubernetes management. The Fairwinds Managed Service team manages Zonar’s fleet of Kubernetes clusters allowing for easier management. Using both Ocean and Insights, the Fairwinds team made the software deployment easy and efficient for Zonar. The partnership resulted in substantial cost savings, enhanced operational efficiency, and robust security measures, aligning with Zonar’s mission to deliver superior smart mobility solutions and maintain a high standard of fleet management.
Spot Instances represent excess capacity from cloud providers offered at discounted rates compared to on-demand pricing. Balancing cost savings with uptime reliability is critical, especially for environments where continuous operation is essential.
Zonar initially used Spot Instances for its Staging and Development environments. Fairwinds partnered with Spot by NetApp to deploy Ocean, a solution that guarantees 99.99% uptime for containers running on Spot Instances. This partnership enabled Zonar to utilize Spot Instances for its production environment without experiencing downtime or operational disruptions. Fairwinds also identified additional applications within Zonar’s infrastructure, including virtual machines, that could benefit from Spot Instances. This comprehensive approach led to further cost efficiencies and resource optimization.
